THE FUNCTIONING OF THE SHELTER IN PUBLIC POLICIES TO PROTECT WOMEN VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE IN BAGÉ

Abstract

Domestic violence is a serious and complex problem that usually occurs when one person in an intimate or family relationship violently exerts power and control over another person. Domestic violence raises concerns about the safety of these women victims. The overall aim of this research is to identify the role of shelters in protecting women who are threatened by or victims of domestic violence in Bagé. To this end, the specific objectives are: to present theoretical concepts about the effects of domestic violence on the lives of women who are threatened or victims; to analyse public policies to combat domestic violence in the municipality of Bagé and to contextualize the operation of shelters in the municipality of Bagé. The problem guiding the research is “What is the role of shelters in protecting women who are threatened or victims of domestic violence in Bagé?”. The hypotheses that drive the research are “The effectiveness of Bagé's shelters as a means of protecting women victims of violence is closely linked to the quality of the services provided, the training of multidisciplinary teams and the close collaboration of public policies to combat domestic violence” and “The analysis of the experiences of women sheltered in Bagé's shelters will highlight not only the challenges faced in the process of leaving the cycle of violence, but also the importance of the social and institutional support network in rebuilding the victims' autonomy and dignity”. The research method will be qualitative and the approach will be deductive. The research techniques will be interviews.
