GENERATION Z AND LEARNING: CHALLENGES OF ATTENTION AND CONCENTRATION IN THE DIGITAL AGE

This article aims to understand how the stimuli and characteristics of the digital age affect Generation Z's attention and concentration in the school environment, focusing on high school students. The research was conducted through a qualitative literature review, covering studies published between 2020 and 2025 in academic databases. The analysis included works that discuss the relationship between digital technologies, electronic device usage habits, and their implications for this generation's learning processes. The choice of Generation Z as the subject of study is justified by their status as digital natives, characterized by intense exposure to multiple stimuli and multitasking, factors that directly influence their ability to focus and construct knowledge. The results indicate that, although technology represents an important ally in the development of active and innovative methodologies, it also poses challenges related to distracted attention, immediacy, and superficiality in learning. In this context, the role of teachers and schools proves essential, as they are responsible for mediating the use of digital tools, transforming potential distractions into meaningful learning tools. It is concluded that the impact of the digital age on Generation Z's attention and concentration is a multifaceted phenomenon that requires innovative pedagogical strategies capable of reconciling the potential of technologies with the strengthening of fundamental cognitive skills.
