This study provides an in-depth analysis of teacher education in Brazil, focusing on the historical, political, and legal challenges that impact the value placed on the teaching profession. The research is based on the theories of Dermeval Saviani and current laws, such as the 1988 Federal Constitution, the LDB (Law No. 9.394/1996), the Minimum Wage Law for Teachers (Law No. 11.738/2008), and the National Education Plan (Law No. 13.005/2014). The methodology used involved a literature review and qualitative documentary analysis. It was observed that, although the laws represent significant progress, there are still obstacles in the real implementation of these guidelines, especially regarding the actual appreciation of teaching, the guarantee of good working conditions, and the establishment of critical and reflective teacher education. The study concludes by stating that it is essential to combine well-structured public policies, continuous teacher training, and social recognition of the profession in order to change the state of education in Brazil.
