HISTORY OF MATHEMATICS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF MATHEMATICS TEACHING AND LEARNING

This study involves a bibliographic perspective and presents some considerations regarding the importance of the history of mathematics for teaching and, consequently, for learning mathematics. The history of mathematics is considered a very rich methodological tool for supporting research and also for contributing to the teaching and learning of mathematics at different levels of schooling. The history of mathematics can serve as methodological support for the development of future teaching sequences in which mathematical knowledge is inserted into an environment of discovery in which questions motivate answers, thus contributing to the understanding that mathematics is the fruit of human creation and develops from the real needs of society.
