Abstract

Integral education, as guided by Brazil’s National Common Core Curriculum (BNCC), aims at the comprehensive development of students by addressing cognitive, socio-emotional, cultural, and ethical dimensions. This chapter aims to analyze integral education from the BNCC perspective, highlighting its pedagogical foundations and implications for educational practices in Basic Education. The methodology adopted is a qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive study based on a narrative literature review, including the analysis of official documents from the Ministry of Education and scientific publications by authors who discuss curriculum, human development, and educational policies. The results indicate that the BNCC strengthens the concept of integral education by integrating general competencies, meaningful learning, and socio-emotional development, fostering connections between school knowledge and students’ social contexts. It is concluded that the effective implementation of integral education requires curricular reorganization, interdisciplinary pedagogical practices, and continuous teacher training to ensure equitable, inclusive education committed to the holistic development of learners.
