This study investigated the role of open education and Open Educational Resources (OER) as strategies for democratizing teaching within the Brazilian context. The research aimed to examine how OER expand access to knowledge, enrich pedagogical practices, and strengthen the autonomy of those involved in learning processes. A qualitative methodology based on bibliographic review was adopted, incorporating national and international authors, institutional reports, and documents from multilateral organizations. The findings indicate that OER contribute to increased accessibility, foster innovative methodologies, and encourage collaboration among educational institutions. The study also suggests that these practices may mitigate educational inequalities and promote a culture of sharing. However, challenges related to technological infrastructure, teacher education, and the absence of permanent public policies hinder their consolidation in the country. It is concluded that OER constitute a relevant field for constructing more inclusive educational ecosystems and that their adoption requires coordinated actions, investments, and cultural change.
